SMH: Man arrested for allegedly threatening shooting in Highland Park, prompting SWAT response

A man was arrested after prosecutors say he called police and threatened to commit a shooting in Highland Park, prompting a SWAT response.


Charles Altman, 49, of Highland Park, was charged with making a false report of an offense, a felony.


Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Dyson said during a bond hearing on Sunday that Altman called police and threatened to commit a shooting in Highland Park.

The threat prompted a SWAT response.


The incident occurred on September 7, court records show.


When police arrived, Altman was allegedly uncooperative and was subsequently tased.

Altman made threatening statements involving firearms and allegedly claimed he had an improvised explosive device (IED), Dyson said.
